Gwel Enys is a mixed tenure development delivered by Homes for Cornwall, an innovative partnership between Vistry Partnerships, LiveWest and Cornwall Council to deliver more affordable homes for local people.
This rural scheme lies in the Cornish village of Madron on the outskirts of Penzance. Of the 24 new homes, nine are affordable housing (available either for Shared Ownership or affordable rent) while the remainder were sold on the open market under the Linden Homes brand. Many of the homes enjoy stunning views across the bay towards St Michael’s Mount and residents on the development were delighted with the new homes which have supported many local families otherwise priced out of the area.
In addition to the affordable homes, we have made a financial contribution to both local education facilities and public open space provision.
As well as the development in Madron, there are already completed Homes for Cornwall developments in Wadebridge, Shortlanesend, Blackwater and St Breward and work has also begun on a further two Homes for Cornwall developments, one on the site of the former Cornwall Council offices at St Clare in Penzance and the other providing more affordable homes in Penzance as part of the old Depot regeneration site.

Madron is a great example of the Council working with other organisations to reduce our housing pressure and ensure families live comfortably in good quality affordable accommodation, which is one of the commitments we made to the people of Cornwall.
